how to buy handcrafted jewellery

Buying Rings

rings

Determining the correct size for the wearer is very important, both for comfort and to avoid loosing a ring.

We work on the standardised system for sizing, and sizes H to Z5 are available, in increments of full and half sizes. We ask you to take great care to make sure that you have selected the right size before you order. The following guidelines can be used to help secure a successful outcome:

If you do not already know your size, we recommend you get the finger measured by a jeweller who will use the standard measurements. More often than not, they are happy to do this free of charge, however, be prepared for a small charge for this as you do not intend to buy from them.

  1. If you are used to wearing rings, you will have noticed that finger size will change according to how hot or cold you are. We suggest you get measured when your hands are at neither extreme. When hands are hot, knuckles will swell and rings can take more effort to remove; the opposite happens when fingers are cold.
  2. Even if your hands are hot when you’re measured, once it’s over the knuckle, a ring should not feel tight. By contrast, it should also not be so loose that it will slip off when hands are cold or wet.
  3. Lastly, we do not recommend that you guess your size – measuring needs to be done precisely, and guessing is rarely successful.

if buying for someone else

Again, we don’t recommend guessing a size, and ideally the person in question should be measured by a jeweller. If they cannot be sized, or if it is for a surprise, you may wish to try to measure a ring of theirs locally. Ask for a ‘leading edge’ measurement, making sure the ring you take is circular inside – a miss-shapen ring won’t be any use.

sizing alterations

If on delivery a ring does not fit, the designer will make another. However, as stated above, because measuring needs to be accurate and precise for a good fit, and because of the nature of the production of these rings, we are only able to replace an incorrectly sized ring once, free of charge. All of our pieces ordered through the website have a ten day refund guarantee if you are unhappy with your purchase or if a ring does not fit. Please read the guidelines about returning an item in terms.
